Obviously, the number one reason for wanting to improve your body should always be health. Without your health, it really doesn’t matter how you look. However, we can’t ignore the fact that we live in a world where, more than ever, people are prized for their physical appearance. Studies show that attractive people are perceived as more likeable, more intelligent, and more ambitious than their less attractive counterparts. As personal trainers, we see people every day who are pursuing their perfect body.
Working with your Power Institute personal trainer is a great first step to changing your body. However, there are a few things you need to know. People will sometimes become frustrated with their results. I’m here to tell you the hard truth…changing your body is not easy! It’s not simply a matter of putting in the time. While training on the Power Plate twice a week for 30 minutes will give you great health related benefits, it’s not going to do much to change your physical appearance. Sorry, but the reality is, if it were that easy, everybody you meet would have a perfect body!! We are highly adaptable creatures and, therefore, in order to change your body, you must challenge your body. While you’re in the process of shaping your ideal body, it is recommended that you train 5-6 days per week. A great reason for having a personal trainer is that they will make sure you are being pushed hard enough to stress your body and elicit change.
While we’re on the topic of your personal trainer helping you to change your body, we need to address the role of diet! Please do not underestimate the importance of this. No matter how fast you’re running, you can’t outrun a poor diet. While cardio is a key element in fitness, it’s definitely not the best or fastest way to drop weight. Diet will play 80% of the role if your goals are fat/weight loss. Diet is also crucial for building muscle. The personal trainers at Power Institute are always happy to give you tips and ideas for your diet, but we can’t be around to monitor what you consume 24/7. The best way to achieve results from your diet is to plan. When you leave things to chance, you’re bound to make decisions that will ruin your efforts. Know what you’re going to eat and drink, and when you’re going to do it. We’re all human, so this includes planning for “cheats”! Best tip…write everything down before you eat it! Ideally, do this on Sunday and plan for the whole week.
The combination of diet and exercise are critical for changing your body. Understand that if you simply “diet” to lose weight, you’re simply becoming a smaller version of your fat self. Dieting will not only reduce body fat, but eat into muscle as well. Strength training while dieting is the key to improving your body composition and creating a lean, toned body.
We encourage you to discuss the role of diet and exercise with your personal trainer and see what suggestions and improvements will help you get the results you’re looking for. Book your appointment by calling (416)967-6937. See you soon!
